No, on Monday morning when he was at work, the apartment above his broke a facuet and it flooded all the way down into his bedroom and everywhere. It was a big ol mess :\ pretty bad…luckily has renter’s insurance to cover most damages, but it’s new management so hopefully everything will go well.

A-kon 24 con report!! I haven’t been back to A-Kon since 2006…we had a falling out with the cosplay contest back when we were young and I hadn’t been back since…but upon the realization that Emily and Kristin hadn’t ever gone before, and the announcement of the new hotel, we decided to hit it up this year and check it out.

Quickest summary: The con itself…pretty lackluster. I wasn’t interested in going to any panels/programming (any program worth going to had very intimidating lines… mebe when I was young I would take it, but not anymore). The hotel overall was spacious enough to hold the attendees, but how the queues and the layout was set up was RIDICULOUS…that bottleneck hallway that led to the dealer’s room, artist alley, prereg/registration, AND food was ridiculous. I was lucky to not have to deal with the worst of it (where people were crammed into it and no proper line and wasn’t moving at all…pretty much they looked like trapped sardines). We stayed at the Anatole and all the removed amenities were the worst. No extra blankets, iron, or HAIRDRYER?? WTF. We were paying so much money to be inside the hotel and got so little. Also I had asked for a tower room but they put us in the atrium (which was really far from the exhibit hall…like…very, very far)…my printout had asked for the tower, and originally stated $17 for parking and they charged $19 (not to mention $20/night fee that our 2 nd car got stuck behind…)

Anyhow, hanging out with friends in cosplay was really the best. The artist alley really impressed me with how many amazing artists/booth setups there were. The con planning/programming was meh but the location was so bare bones that I refuse to stay there and ever again. Didn’t even have a tag to put “Privacy Please” on our door =_= Smaller cons are so much more fun than line-cons.

Day Zero: Thursday

So Johnny, Nutt, Kristin and I headed out from my house to Arlington Thursday evening so Nutt could pick up some stuff for his cosplay before the con. I was still last minute trying to get a good coat of paint on my Homura shield (Johnny had to help…I’m not very good at spraypainting B:) Overall I think it looks a little rough IRL but in photos it turned out pretty good! I’m quite glad. Johnny drove while I sewed on the white diamond on the back of Homura’s collar (I never had it…too last minute work for Afest when I first worked on it). We stopped by a Sonic for food and shakes, and popped into Arlington around 11-12:00) Pretty much just went to bed cuz it was quite a drive…

Day One: Friday

Woke up early to do makeup. For a second there I thought I brought the wrong eyelash glue…but it started working and I put it on pretty OK. I almost want to say this was Make-Up con for me, I think my makeup turned out pretty good and I’m starting to get the hang of it. Ate some sandwiches at Nutt’s place before heading out to the hotel. I got a Nutella Peanut Butter one :9

Got to the hotel in a decent time but was a little lost going from the Atrium, then the Tower (to check in, cuz that’s what I reserved), to back to the Atrium. But we learned parking was just going to be charged to the room…so we decided to abandon the, “drive to Brandon’s place and park” and just park everyone (2 cars) at the hotel. That got us in trouble a bit later, but it was useful at the time since Brandon had to work and couldn’t shuttle us anyways.

They were quite accommodating to get us checked in earlier…I ended up sticking with the Atrium because 1) it was ready and 2) queen beds vs full beds and 3) 5 th floor for being able to walk up the stairs if necessary. Although later the Atrium was freaking far far away from everything, the 5 th floor was much needed to avoid elevator lines.

Our group’s cosplays for this day: Kim – Sayaka, Me –Homura, Emily – Finn (beautiful hair version), Kristin –Fionna, Sherry – (this maid character from some anime I didn’t know…). Nutt was supposed to do Magic Man but he ended up not getting it done in time.

Johnny and Kristin went to pick up Kim at Brandon’s, and McNutt and I got in the Pre-reg line. My wait time was probably around 2-2.5 hours…I was getting nervous because Kim and I needed to volunteer at the Daisuki.net booth at 2:00 and that line was so incredibly long…my feet hurt already before helping man the booth. While in line tho we saw Natalie, Shari, and Bonner! So that was pretty cool, it helped ease the pain of how long we were crawling up to pre-registration. Daren’s car (Emily, Austin, and Sherry) showed up while we were nearly at the front of the line so they had to wait it out until we finished to get a room key :|

Kim and I ran off to help volunteer at the booth. All we did was give out free bags…Cat-Chan was with us but she had been working solo for the first hour we weren’t there :X but it was cool to hang! And be all obnoxious and race around offering bags to people (especially people with swag that needed to be in a bag. Then we felt like awesome grocers bagging everyone’s stuff, lol) Also got a few photos, and one cool that happened is one guy did a quick steadicam video of me and I pretended to be cool and flip my hair and stuff. I do like video but then we had this discussion afterwards with Genjitsu from ACP about the “new trend” or whatever. I love steadicam but not everyone can make a great video…

Johnny dropped by with radios…that was also a really fun thing for the con :D we had all learned that during the car moving around that a lot of the T-Mobile phones weren’t working well…luckily we had walkie-talkies and it was a good way to keep in contact with one another. Kim, Johnny and I wandered the dealer’s room but my feet were in such pain…I had gotten inserts for my Homura shoes but it still can’t stand past a test of 5 hours. Since the dealer’s room was closing anyways, I hobbled back to the room and we changed out of clothes.

Emily’s dad said we all had to go to Medieval Times next door and would comp our meal. Armed with the coupon ticket that came with the swag bag, we walked over and OMG it was SOOOO MUCH FUN. A lot of us got drinks at the bar to get the souvenir glass (I got a strawberry slush). Our server, Bill, actually was an A-Kon Attendee, and once he figured we were cool, he was all making all these jokes and trolling on Johnny (who takes it in swing). I think we made him laugh more than he made us laugh. We were on the Red-and-Yellow Knight’s team and HE HAD SUCH LUCIOUS hair. We screamed SUPER LOUD for him during the tournament but he failed us!! We were all flipping our shit during the fights (like standing up, chanting…I was screaming stuff like “FINISH HIM! KICK HIS ASS!” and it wasn’t just our group…the row next to us was stomping and roaring just as loud). We all pretty much lost our voices. But apparently it was predetermined beforehand (during the games while we were eating) that the section who cheered the loudest then would win. Boo. Wasted breath but oh so fun. We also enjoyed picking on the Green Knight because he looked super young.

Anyhow, it was uber fun and probably the most exciting part of the con. It’s so nice to be older and have money and ideas to do things like that.

Anyhow, I showered and got into Kigurumi for our pajama party…wandered downstairs for a bit but went to bed afterwards.

Day Two: Saturday

People’s cosplays today: Kristin – Sailor Saturn, Emily –Sailor Uranus, Sherry – Sailor Venus, Kim – Sailor Mercury, Johnny – Piers Nivans, McNutt – Leon Kennedy, Me – Sherry Birkin, Ashley – Beemo, Daniel G – TF2 outfit (I don’t know of which character tho)

Woke up and learned how to do lashes from Sherry…I feel like it’s suddenly so easy!! Sherry’s so flipping awesome. I need to buy my own good eyelash glue, but she taught me how to use the tweezers to help with the ends…it’s so much easier now that even on Sunday I put them on :P All the Sailor Scouts looked freaking adorable too. Johnny, McNutt and I wandered downstairs first to weapon’s check, then dropped in the Dealer’s room before the Scouts followed…Kim didn’t have gloves yet and we spread out to find a pair. Luckily we did :) We headed out to the Sailor Moon Photoshoot but our RE6 group didn’t do much but watch their bags ;P

Afterwards, we headed inside and glanced around the artist alley…lots of good artists *o* they have such good command of composition and color. I saw Will at his table as usual and chatted a little bit. Afterwards we stepped out and OMG. The little hallway was crammed to the walls with people. We were diverted to the outside to exit and looking through the glass windows in the hallway it was literally stuffed like crazy. Apparently Ashley and Daniel may have been in that hallway…and Emily was searching for them and got stuck too.

We relaxed a bit in the room and ate lunch, and Ashley and Daniel caught up with us there. We were going to try going down again to get them into the Dealer’s Room but we saw the traffic jam was still there and didn’t even try. I gathered up the Sailor Scouts that we had an did a photoshoot…picked up a Neptune along the way, and later on found a Mars, and Sailor Moon (much later). Luckily my Sherry Birkin is a very flexible outfit so I could run around a lot in weird angles and try a bunch of stuff. However It was pretty hot/sweaty :X

“Con Horror Story” of the year….so the Creepy L guy who wanted to pick up Kim as Sayaka for a photo back at Afest (you’ll hafta read my Sunday entry for the details) had been creeping around all con, wearing the same thing, and smelling the same funk D: Anyhow, when we spotted him approaching our photoshoot, Kim just NOPE’D out of there so fast…he walked up to Sherry and asked her for a picture. I just interrupted and said we were in the middle of a photoshoot…it deterred him from asking again but he just sorta stood nearby, WAITING…STARING…Had a mini discussion with Emily and Kristin (the Neptune had already left) and we just packed shop and fled. Apparently I didn’t realize Johnny was helping escort Ashley and Daniel back to the room and later he came back and was like “…wtf” and couldn’t find us for a while. But seriously, we lost the CreepyL and went up a hidden elevator in the tower/main area for a little bit. After I thought all was clear, we went downstairs to take some photos near the gazebo sculpture thing…Johnny met up with us there (oh, and Nathan was hanging with us during this whole time). A Mars and Sailor Moon joined us for a little bit, but during that time CreepyL found us again. He couldn’t get into the area because they were roping it off for the contest line (we had some trouble too, trying to get photos there, but they finally let us go around), but when we finished we hightailed it out of there…ran up the stairs near the exhibit hallway/café and hid in some corners. we had a good start but he was almost seriously chasing us down…I think he past us when we were trying to see if we should duck in a room, and then Johnny had to hold Kim and Sherry’s hands while the rest of us went into recon mode to make sure he wasn’t around when we ran back to our room. It’s a funny story but seriously scary. It’s hard to flat out say no to someone who hasn’t really done anything but really invade your comfort zone, but it is just SOOO UNCOMFORTABLE…

Anywho, we changed out (mostly) and hit up a barbeque place to eat dinner. I liked the sweet potato fries :9 we headed back and we changed back into RE6 outfits to mebe take some photos with Natalie/wander about, and saw Izzy and talked with him for a bit. Natalie couldn’t make it out in time so we just dressed down and went to bed.

Day Three: Sunday

Woke up – btw did I mention that we used the Circle of Life as our alarm? Lol it was the greatest. We all cleaned up pretty fast, loaded up the car, and was able to get out of the room by 11:00! That was a surprise. Johnny wasn’t feeling that well throughout the day tho D: poor boy…

Cosplays today: Kim – Kato (Green Hornet), Sherry –someone from Stein’s Gate, Kristin – TF2 Scout (red team), and me and Emily wore our Sentret and Jake Kigurumis, respectively.

We looked at the dealer’s room…and our group ended up buying 5 more NemuNekos….here’s the full list that our group has (from newest to oldest):

Also Johnny bought it for me…it is SOOOOO CUTE. I was debating between the chocolate neko vs the long haired white one last time at AM, so now I have both, kekeke. I will have to get him the Siamese one when I can, kekeke. And the Tan heart Neko to match his chocolate heart neko…I swear, we will make a bed of nemunekos…

Anyhow, we wandered to the artist alley afterwards, and then chilled…ran into Whitney! And Peter (Jiang!) AND MICHAEL!! Dressed as the blue scout!! It was perfect, Kristin and Him took a photo. So cute. Plus cool to see our buddy from overseas again :D It’s been a long while.

Afterwards we headed out to HMart…we ran into a parking issue -_- we had tried getting the in-and-out privileges to get an extra car in thru the gate, but it didn’t work I guess… and they charged them an extra fee. >T so lame. Wish there was a good sweet-talker in that car. PLUS they charged even more…$20 a day…wtf…that was like a breaking point about the hotel…no Iron, no Extra Blankets, no Hairdryer??? I NEED MY HAIR DRYER WTF

It’s not like this shit gets stolen. =_= Next year, if I even want to go, I’m booking the Courtyard Marriott next door. I get company discount + it won’t be so derpastic. Geez. And free wi-fi.

We ate at HMart, but next time we go to dallas (COUGHCOUGHAFEST), we’re eating at the $10 all you can eat Bulgogi. Daniel S joined up with us and I forgot to compliment his lasic eye surgery. We also had some yogurtland, and purikura’d. I had to drive home afterwards but it went okay, we didn’t die.

Life is gud.

The reason I’m posting late…and can’t have the whole post-con-photo/people search is because Johnny’s apartment got flooded yesterday D: I helped him move some stuff out to wash at my place but it looks like an exhausting week ahead…sucks so much :’(

although thankfully nothing too high value got ruined except mebe his computers (which are quite cheap. The Chromebook is all online, so it’s not like he lost data on that)

If I look at the bright side, I get to spent a lot of this week with him before I leave for Europe (11 day vacation), our kitties can get introduced, and I get 4 nemunekos at my place :D

Oh and that he gets new carpet put in…hopefully his apartment will look really nice afterwards.

I started working on cosplay nearly at the beginning of April (right after Anime Matsuri)…and now with less than 2 weeks away from A-kon let’s see how delayed we are by the amount of redos I’ve had to do:

blouse base+sleeves (2 times)
buttonholes (3 times)
Buying wig (2 times. Unfortunaately the first one was a better color, already pawned the 2nd wig off to McNutt :B)
shoulder holster (2 times)
Pants stripe (3 times)
Socks stripe (5 times)
Patch (2 times)

I have a calendar that I use to track my progress and hopefully plan ahead…but by now it almost looks like I shifted everything out of the month of April and May because I was redoing so many things =_= but all I have left now are the magazine pouches and styling the wig~ If I can get a pattern down for the pouches, it really shouldn’t be too difficult.

But here’s hoping I can make a decent shield for Homura then by A-kon…I need a prop mentor @_@

normally i write this stuff on my cosplay fb page, but i just feel like a whiner and tumblr is used to little shits like me

Also just physically and emotionally drained…a lot of changes at work with a much bigger workload, and with how i’m dealing with loneliness and fear of being abandoned by others…too much in my life has changed and i can’t keep up. I have my little pity parties on my own and just want to wallow in it’s depths…
